Inaugural meeting of the Vietnamese-German Joint Economic Committee

Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and German Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier co-chaired the first meeting of the joint committee for economic cooperation between the two countries which took place virtually on January 12.

2020 was an extremely difficult year for the domestic and global economies due to the negative impacts of Covid-19 and global trade disruption. But Vietnamese exports recorded an impressive performance, becoming a bright spot and laying the foundation for a firm economic recovery in 2021.

Le Tien Truong, General Director of Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) said that with the agreement between Vietnam and South Korea on the implementation of the provision of accumulation principle on the origin of fabric material in the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), garment products from Vietnam imported to the EU have a rate of meeting the rules of origin up to 50%.

Since its entry into force on August 1, the European Union (EU) – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has brought first successes, reflected by the strong growth of Vietnam’s exports to the EU in recent months and opened significant opportunities for sustainable development in bilateral trade.
