FM Deputy Minister: Vietnam ready to bolster all-around cooperation with Mexico

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son was speaking this during a July 17 online discussion with his Mexican counterpart Julio Ventura with a view to stepping up comprehensive cooperation between the two nations in celebration of 45 years of diplomatic ties (1975-2020).

Son briefed the Mexican deputy minister on the epidemic situation in Vietnam and the country’s experience in combating the pandemic, as well as a range of measures to recover the national economy and ensure social welfare post-pandemic.

The Mexican diplomat, in turn, said his nation is appreciative of Vietnam’s experience in this regard and hopes to learn from it.

Both sides noted with satisfaction the positive development of multidimensional cooperation, with bilateral mechanisms including political consultation between the two foreign ministries and meetings of the joint committee on cooperation in economy-trade and investment.

Legal frameworks have been carried out effectively with new negotiations having started in multiple areas. Notably, two-way trade continued to see a rapid increase in the first half of this year despite complex developments in global trade.

The two sides will work hand in hand to maintain development momentum in bilateral ties, prepare high-level visits and meetings, realize collaborative mechanisms, and accelerate negotiations over the signing of major cooperation documents regarding customs, education, and agriculture.

They will also work to effectively materialize the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and continue their coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially the UN, as both countries serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 term (Vietnam) and 2021-2022 (Mexico), and other major forums such as the WTO, APEC, and the G20.
