Vietnam-US trade turnover hits new record
16/02/2011 46Vietnam-US trade turnover reached US$18.324 billion in 2010, 19 percent higher than in the previous year.
This is the highest figure ever recorded since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1995 with a total turnover of US$451 million.
According to the US Department of Commerce, Vietnam exported US$14.784 billion of goods to the US in 2010, (up 20 percent) and imported US$3.539 billion, (up 7 percent).
The US International Trade Commission said Vietnam ranked 27 among the US’s 221 exporters, with its garments reaching US$5.76 billion (up 15.2 percent), followed by timber products (US$1.82 billion), footwear (US$1.62 billion), electric equipment and audio products (US$778.6 million), and seafood (US$646.4 million).
Among Vietnam’s key export items to the US, machinery and mechanical equipment and spare parts achieved the highest growth of 53 percent to US$621.2 million.
US exports to Vietnam increased by 7 percent in 2010 because Vietnam imported more machinery, mechanical equipment and spare parts (US$393.7 million) and cotton, fibre and fabric (US$254 million).
