China and Norway have agreed to restart free trade negotiations.

The first round of negotiations on the China-Norway free trade agreement (FTA) occurred in September 2008. However, negotiations were put on hold after the eighth round in September 2010, after relations were frozen between the two states because of the decision to award Liu Xiaobo, a Chinese dissident, a Nobel prize.

After meetings on April 7-10, representatives of the two countries signed agreements concerning restarting FTA negotiations, the Joint Economic and Trade Committee between the two countries, and cooperation in economic and technical matters.

A statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said: "Restarting relevant trade and economic arrangement will be conducive to deepening mutual cooperation… and promote the China-Norway trade and economic relationship to be a new stage."
