New Zealand Seeking FTA Talks With EU
07/06/2017 52New Zealand is hoping to launch talks towards a free trade agreement with the EU this week, the Government has said.
Speaking ahead of a June 7 OECD meeting, New Zealand's Trade Minister Todd McClay said he would discuss trade relationships with the EU and the US.
McClay said he had scheduled talks with European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom and newly appointed US Trade Representative Ambassador Robert Lighthizer.
"I will be pushing hard for the start of trade negotiations with the EU when I meet with Commissioner Malmström," he said. "We've made good progress, but it's important we launch negotiations with Europe this year to level the playing field for Kiwi exporters.
