Australia and Vietnam officially launched the Skills Forecast for Vietnam’s Port Industry during the 2024-2028 period and announced the upgrade of the Skills Forecast for the Logistics Industry during the 2024-2026 period at a seminar held in Hai Phong City on June 26.

The reports help the Vietnamese Government, port and logistics enterprises, and training institutions to better understand the future trends and needs of the labour market that will act as information bases for decision making on human resources, training, and investment in these key sectors.

The reports are conducted by the Logistics Industry Skills Advisory Council and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote vocational education within the framework of cooperation between Australia and Vietnam. They contribute to the implementation of the master plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system in the 2021-2023 period, with a vision to 2050, under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg, dated September 22, 2021.

At the event, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration under the Ministry of Transport Hoang Hong Giang said that with its geographical location, Vietnam has great potential to become a regional logistics centre.

However, he added that Vietnam still lacks a lot of professionally trained human resources in the logistics industry and supply chain.

Skills forecasts promote closer linkage between the industry partners and vocational education sector, aiming to enable businesses to access skilled and trained workers tomeet their needs. The reports also help training institutions develop and adapt their curricula and programmes to meet the needs of businesses.

The forecasts also help the Vietnamese Government improve its development of investment plans for vocational education.

Expressing his delight at Australia’s support for Vietnam in developing human resources for over the past 50 years, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowskisaid that Australia's commitment in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam is to outline the two countries' shared vision of Vietnam's sustainable economic growth goal, which requires a skilled and competitive workforce.

In recent years, Australia has shared its experience in developing the vocational education system with Vietnam through the Aus4Skills Project — a cooperation programme to enhance the capacity of Vietnam's human resources to take advantage of emerging economic opportunities and achieve long-term development goals.
