Solutions for High and Sustainable Export Growth
Time: December 16, 2025
Venue: Bao Son Hotel (50 Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Hanoi)
Seminar organizer: the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade)
The seminar attracted the participation of representatives from ministries, departments, industry associations, the business community, and many experts and scientists in the fields of economics , trade, and international integration.
In his opening remarks at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Anh Son, Director of the Import-Export Department, affirmed that the period 2020–2025 marks a strong development of Viet Nam's import-export activities, thereby confirming the pivotal role of the trade sector in the economy. Besides the positive results, Director Nguyen Anh Son emphasized that Viet Nam's exports are facing structural and long-term challenges. On the international level, the slow recovery of the global economy, geopolitical conflicts, the trend of trade fragmentation, and increasing protectionism are narrowing the traditional growth potential.
In his thematic speech, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, provided an in-depth analysis of the achievements, prospects, and challenges facing Viet Nam's import-export sector in the coming period. He also emphasized the need for a strong shift from an extensive growth model to an intensive, efficient, and sustainable growth model, linked to increasing added value, technological content, and localization rates.
From a digital commerce perspective, Mr. Tran Van Trong, Secretary General of the Viet Nam E-commerce Association, believes that cross-border e-commerce is opening up significant opportunities for exports, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, but it also poses an urgent need to improve digital capabilities, logistics, and compliance with international market regulations.
Referring to global market trends, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang – an expert in international economic integration and law, and former Director of the WTO and Integration Center (VCCI) – emphasized that meeting sustainability standards regarding the environment, labor, social responsibility, and corporate governance is no longer an option, but has become a mandatory condition for exported goods. According to Dr. Trang, proactively adapting to sustainability standards will help Vietnamese businesses enhance their competitiveness, reduce trade risks, and create a foundation for long-term growth.
