The next ministerial meeting for Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade negotiations will likely be postponed to February 2014 from the initially planned January, informed sources said.

The United States has recently proposed holding the next meeting on Feb. 17-19 after calling for a January session, when 12 members of the TPP negotiations gathered at the latest ministerial meeting in Singapore this month, the sources said Tuesday.

But “the date or the place of the planned meeting has not been set,” a source said, noting that not all members have responded to the new U.S. proposal. In connection with this, Yasutoshi Nishimura, senior vice minister at the Cabinet Office, told a press conference, “We want to make efforts to hold the next ministerial meeting at an early date in February if January is not a viable option.”
