HO CHI MINH CITY, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam is likely to earn 1.4 billion U.S. dollars from fruit and vegetable exports in 2014, the ever record high made so far, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

In the first 10 months, fruit and vegetable exports brought over 1.2 billion dollars to the country, surpassing the yearly target set by the ministry, local Saigon Times daily reported Wednesday, quoting general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetables Association (Vinafruit) Nguyen Van Ky as saying.

China was the largest importer of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables during the reviewed period, accounting for one-third of the export market share, followed by Japan, the United States, South Korea and Holland.

In recent years, more kinds of Vietnamese fresh fruit and vegetables have been exported to the United States, Australia and South Korea due to their accepted certification in food safety and hygiene. Besides, Vietnamese firms have invested more in processing the products in frozen canned form, according to Vinafruit.

In 2013, Vietnam earned over 1 billion U.S. dollars from fruits and vegetables exports, over 827 million U.S. dollars in 2012.
