This document is compiled to introduce the Farm to Fork Strategy, a crucial part of the European Green Deal. The strategy aims to transform the European Union's food system into a sustainable, fair, and healthy model. With specific targets such as reducing the use of chemical pesticides by 50%, cutting chemical fertilizers by 20%, and increasing the area under organic farming to 25% by 2030, the strategy seeks to minimize the environmental and climate impact of food production while ensuring food security and public health amidst global crises.
Chapter 1: The Need for Action - Presents the urgent need to act against the challenges faced by the current food system, such as negative impacts on the environment and public health, while highlighting the opportunities from the European Green Deal to drive transformation.
Chapter 2: Building a Food Chain that Serves Consumers, Producers, Climate, and the Environment - Describes specific measures to build a sustainable food chain, including ensuring environmentally friendly food production, food security, and promoting sustainable practices in processing, wholesale, retail, food services, along with encouraging healthy food consumption.
Chapter 3: Facilitating the Transition - Discusses tools and measures to support the transition to a sustainable food system, such as research, innovation, technology, investment, advisory services, data sharing, and skill development for stakeholders.
Chapter 4: Promoting Global Transition - Addresses the EU's role in promoting the global transition to sustainable food systems through trade policy, international cooperation, and setting global sustainability standards.
Chapter 5: Conclusion - Summarizes the key points of the strategy, calls for collaboration from all stakeholders in the food chain to achieve the goals, and reaffirms the EU's commitment to monitoring and evaluating the transition process.
