Main competitors of Vietnamese goods in Thailand
Thailand’s largest import sources
Because of geographic proximity and favorable trade conditions, countries and territories in Asia supply most of Thailand’s imported goods. China was Thailand’s largest import partner, accounting for more than 31%, followed by Japan at 8.57%. Thailand also imported heavily from Taiwan (China), the UAE, Malaysia, and the Republic of Korea. Viet Nam ranked seventh among Thailand’s major import partners, with a share of nearly 3%.
These major suppliers dominate the Thai market in many important product groups, from electrical machinery to industrial inputs. Economies such as China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Indonesia have export structures similar to Viet Nam’s and therefore pose significant competitive pressure in the Thai market.

FTA partners
As of the end of May 2025, Thailand had a total of 14 FTAs in force with 18 economies, mainly in Asia. Goods from these partners enjoy tariff preferences when exported to Thailand under the relevant FTAs.
Thailand is continuing to expand its FTA network with new partners in different regions, including negotiations with the EU, EFTA, Canada, and others. New FTAs are expected to increase competitive pressure on Vietnamese exports to the Thai market
