Malaysia’s tariff commitments for imported goods under RCEP
In the RCEP legal text, Malaysia’s tariff commitments are set out in Chapter 2 – Trade in Goods and Annex I – the tariff schedule that Malaysia offers to RCEP countries. Specifically:
- Chapter 2 – Trade in Goods: Includes specific treatment principles for goods traded within the RCEP region, most importantly commitments on import tariffs (reduction principles, national treatment obligations, etc.) and commitments on non-tariff measures (internal taxes and charges, import and export restrictions, import licensing, etc.);
- Annex I – Malaysia’s tariff commitments to RCEP countries: Includes one common tariff schedule that Malaysia applies to all RCEP member countries, and one tariff-rate quota schedule for certain tariff lines.
To enjoy tariff preferences when exporting to Malaysia, products must satisfy the rules of origin and origin certification procedures under RCEP.
