SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- South Korea aims to raise its exports of agricultural and fisheries products to China and ASEAN countries by more than 40 percent this year, in a bid to achieve an export target of 10 billion U.S. dollars for the products, local media reported Friday.

The Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corp. (AT) said the country's exports of agricultural and fisheries products to China would increase 44.8 percent to reach two billion U.S. dollars, according to Yonhap news agency.

Outbound shipments to the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are also expected to expand 45. 8 percent to 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, it said.

The trade agency also plans to raise food exports to Japan, the largest market for South Korean agricultural and fisheries products, to 3 billion U.S. dollars this year, up 26.4 percent from a year before, by targeting customers seeking safe food products amid radiation fears following the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. "We expect the country's exports of agricultural and fisheries products to surpass 10 billion U.S. dollars this year on the back of efforts by the government and export companies," Yonhap quoted Kim Jae-soo, president of AT, as saying.
