BRUSSELS, Dec 7 (Reuters) - The European Union formally backed Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organisation on Tuesday, clearing the way for Moscow to join the body in 2011 after 17 years of trying. EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht and Russian Economic Development Minister Elvira Nabiullina signed an agreement on the sidelines of an EU-Russia summit, after the resolution of a tariff dispute that had held up EU approval.

China’s Ministry of Agriculture said it hadn’t held talks with its Argentine counterpart on importing corn from the Latin American nation, Yicai.com reported, citing a press statement from the ministry. A news report saying China agreed to buy 5.5 million metric tons of Argentine corn in 2011 was inaccurate, the ministry said in the statement dated Dec. 3, according to Yicai.com, which didn’t identify the source of the earlier report.
