USTR discusses TPP talks in Japan
23/10/2012 55Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Wendy Cutler discussed the Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade agreement with senior Japanese officials Thursday as the government remains undecided on whether to join the talks.
Cutler, in charge of bilateral preliminary talks on the TPP, came to Japan amid low expectations for progress as the United States is only weeks away from a presidential election and discussions about joining the TPP talks remain stagnant in Japan.
In his meeting with Cutler, national policy minister Seiji Maehara explained Japan's stance and public views on the TPP, while Cutler shared the current state of negotiations, officials said.
