Japan's Economic Revitalization Minister Akira Amari and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung have agreed that their countries will cooperate in the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks.

Amari, who is in charge of the TPP issue, met separately with Prime Minister Dung and Industry and Trade Minister Vu Huy Hoang in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, on Friday. Vietnam is already taking part in the TPP negotiations.

In talks with Dung, Amari said Japan and Vietnam have been strengthening economic relations under the Economic Partnership Agreement. He said Japan wants to build cooperative relations also in the TPP talks by having officials exchange information.

Amari then asked for detailed information about the previous TPP talks.

Dung said Japan is an important partner for Vietnam in all aspects, including the economy and foreign affairs. He said Vietnam wants to cooperate closely with Japan in the talks.

Amari told reporters after the meeting that he thinks Japan is developing close cooperation with Vietnam.
He said Japan hopes to discuss common interests and concerns with Vietnam before joining the multilateral TPP talks.
