GCC-EU Free Trade Agreement Is 99 Percent Complete
31/07/2013 72A stalled Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) is "99 percent complete," according to Bahrain's Minister for Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalid made the comment at a press conference following the 23rd session of the Joint Ministerial Council Meeting between the GCC and the EU on June 30, 2013.
The two sides committed to free trade negotiations in 1988. However, since talks began in 1990 they have been interrupted several times.
Shaikh Khalid noted that "The agreement has not been signed yet, but can be seen as almost finalized as 99% of its items were agreed upon with the exception of an item about fees on exports."
