The June 2026 International Economic Integration Newsletter was compiled by VCCI to summarize integration-related events expected to take place in June 2026 and July 2026. The newsletter aims to provide reference information for the business community, government agencies, researchers and readers interested in Viet Nam’s international economic integration process.
June 2026 saw several notable developments in Viet Nam’s international economic integration process, combining the trade and investment picture for the first half of the year with continued domestic policy improvements. Total import-export turnover in the first six months reached a record USD 549.69 billion, while the trade balance shifted to a deficit of USD 16.65 billion. At the same time, registered foreign investment increased by 61% year-on-year. During this period, Viet Nam continued to strengthen its integration framework as the first legal framework on Halal came into effect, Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW shaped a new phase in FDI attraction, and the Government issued a mechanism to support enterprises in making better use of FTAs.
Trade relations with the United States remained a key focus, as the United States proposed imposing tariffs under Section 301 in relation to forced labour and issued an Executive Order on strengthening customs enforcement. These developments came alongside a series of new EU legal frameworks affecting Vietnamese exports. Moving into July, several notable events took place, including Viet Nam and EFTA concluding negotiations on a free trade agreement after nearly 14 years, the official operation of the agricultural product traceability system, and the entry into force of the EU-US tariff agreement.
