The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) was signed in the spirit of comprehensive cooperation and the balance of interests between Vietnam and the European Union (EU). This is one of the new generation FTAs that is expected to bring strategic benefits to Vietnam through the development of trade-investment relations with one of Vietnam's largest and most important partners.

Looking back one year since the EVFTA took effect, the growth of imports faster than exports shows a sign of a change in the trade model between Vietnam and the EU towards a trade surplus. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, it is not possible to confirm whether the reduction in trade surplus is the actual trend or not. Besides, Vietnam also needs stronger and more proactive policy solutions, so that it can build production and export capacity at a higher level in the direction of prioritizing added value and high technology. .
