The EVFTA with Vietnam’s Trade Journal - Q1/2021 Issue on the Textile and Apparel - Leather, Footwear and Handbag industries is the fruits of cooperation between the Import-Export Department and Industry and Trade and Industry Information Center. With the goal of assessing the implementation of EVFTA and the efficiency of taking advantage of EVFTA for Vietnam's trade, the EVFTA with Vietnam’s Trade Journal is published every quarter, of which each issue will focus on a critical sector.

The EVFTA with Vietnam’s Trade Journal – the Q1/2021 issue assesses the impact of EVFTA on Textile and Apparel - Leather, Footwear and Handbag industries. The export of goods in these industries was expected to experience a significant growth after EVFTA came into effect, which was eventually realised with recovering exports figures. The EU - Viet Nam FTA has been implemented amid Covid-19 pandemic’s complicated developments which heavily affect the EU market. The isolation, quarantine and lockdown measures applied within the bloc along with economic impacts have reduced demand for non-essential goods, including imported textile and apparel, leather, footwear and handbag. Given such context, EVFTA has contributed to the recovery of the export of goods in the mentioned industries in the last 5 months of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.
